Airport ‘transformed’ since terror attack

Glasgow Airport has been completely transformed, one year after from the terror attack which brought chaos to thousands of holidaymakers, its managing director said. Speaking on the anniversary of the attack today, Gordon Dewar said £4m had been spent in the last 12 months on improving the terminal and carrying out repairs. He also insisted it would be business as usual for the airport's 5,000-strong workforce today.
Security measures introduced at the airport in the wake of last year's terror attack are only part of a massive upgrade. Mr Dewar said: 'We have worked hard over the last year to repair and refurbish the terminal building. There are now few visible signs of last year's attack.'
He said the airport had now been completely transformed, with £4m being spent in the last 12 months on upgrading the terminal and forecourt, including repairs to the areas damaged by smoke and water. Bomb-proof glass has been installed along the frontage and door two - the point of impact - has been completely rebuilt.
The final phase of the updrade will see 300 steel bollards being installed along the inner forecourt, replacing the temporary barriers added following the attack. Mr Dewar said: ‘Glasgow Airport has incurred substantial capital costs as a result of the attack on the terminal. Despite this, we have worked hard to deliver improved facilities, at no cost to our passengers, or to the taxpayer.’
