easyJet flight 'too heavy'; six passengers paid €250 to get off
30.04.10
Passengers on an easyJet flight from Glasgow were asked to get off the plane yesterday - because it was too heavy. The Daily Record reports that airline staff asked for volunteers to come off the flight to Malaga as it prepared to take off just after 09:00. It eventually left 90 minutes late after six passengers agreed to get off.
An easyJet spokesman told the newspaper: ‘Strong headwinds on that route meant the aircraft needed more fuel. This makes it much heavier,so we had no choice but to offload passengers. The delay came from asking six passengers to offload.’
The six passengers who got off the plane are reported to have received seats on a flight to Luton and then a connecting flight to Malaga. They were given compensation of €250 each by the airline for agreeing to offload.
