New roadworks to affect airport users
29.11.08
Motorists face night time roadworks on the A8 in Greenock. Drivers are begin urged to allow extra time for their journeys, and consider all travel options, especially if they are travelling to Glasgow Airport or into Glasgow itself during the work.
New street lighting is being installed between Cartsdyke roundabout (beside MacDonald’s) and Cartsburn Street. The £80,000 project starts on Monday and is scheduled for completion on Christmas Eve. It will take place between 20:00 and 06:00 each night, with the road closing westbound on week one and eastbound on week two.
A signed diversion will be in operation via Ratho Street, St Lawrence Street and Cartsburn Street during the work. However, to complete the project there will be some inside lane closures operating during daytime, off-peak, hours.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will replace existing lights on both sides of the road with new aluminium columns that do not corrode, reducing further maintenance. Forty-three lighting columns will be replaced with 39 new energy efficient columns with single lanterns. The level of light will be the same.
