Airport announced £25m upgrade
28.12.09
Glasgow Airport has announced a £25m upgrade and expansion plan to improve facilities for passengers and traffic access. The planned developments to be carried out over the next two years include improving the airport road system, a new food court, a new runway lighting system and upgrade to the airfield taxiway.
The airport's main passenger lounge will be refurbished along with improvements to the internal layouts of the main terminal building, in an effort to offer passengers ‘a more seamless passenger journey through the airport’. The airport will also contribute £1m towards the cost of the M74 extension, which will reduce journey times to and from the hub.
BAA will invest £12m in Glasgow Airport in 2010, followed by a further £13m in 2011. By 2014, when the city hosts the Commonwealth Games, BAA expects to have spent between £85m and £100m on improvements.
