Smeato quits job to become head of security at airport car park

John Smeaton, the baggage handler catapulted to superhero status after he took on the two terrorist attackers at Glasgow Airport in June, has quit his job to take up a new role as head of security at an airport car park.
Mr Smeaton, 31, known as 'Smeato', won global recognition after talking of his actions felling terrorists as a blazing car was driven into the terminal in June. He famously said of the attack: 'Glesga doesnae accept this. This is Glesga; we'll set aboot ye.'
However, after 13 years' service at the airport, he handed in his resignation. He said: 'I'll be really sad to leave, but now is the right time to move on. I'm looking forward to a new start and hopefully getting my life back to some sort of normality.'
John McGlynn, founder and chairman of the Airlink Group, which owns Glasgow Parksafe Airport car park, said he was looking forward to welcoming Mr Smeaton to the firm. We're not sure if we hope he has more of less cigarette breaks in his new role (he was on a break outside the terminal, which is how he saw the attack).
