MSPs urged to back rail link
Plans for a £210m rail link between the city centre and Glasgow Airport must be supported this week, MSPs were told yesterday. The call came from economic organisation the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI), who said that a vote to back the proposals was vital for the city's economy.
The private bill, which will allow the Glasgow Airport Rail Link to proceed, will come before the Scottish Parliament tomorrow (Wednesday). If approvide, it pave the way for a new fast link from Central Station to the airport, via Paisley Gilmour Street. It would also lead to increased services to Renfrewshire, Ayrshire and Inverclyde.
A spokesman for the SCDI said: 'The scheme is essential if the city is to achieve the ambitious growth targets set out in its 10-year economic strategy. MSPs can begin to make this vision a reality by supporting the rail link that most of its competitor cities already enjoy.'
