Icelandair suspend flights
27.10.08
Icelandair has announced that it will suspend its regular flights between Glasgow Airport and Reykjavik until March, although industry sources suggest that the route may not take off again then. The decision will mean the only direct flights between Glasgow and Reykjavik will be around New Year.
The Icelandic airline has said that there had been a drop in demand for travel from Iceland following the country's recent economic difficulties. It also said that the fall in the exchange rate between the Icelandic krona and the pound had also hit the route's profitability.
A spokesman for Icelandair said it planned to re-introduce a twice-weekly service on March 28 next year, when the summer flights schedule starts. However, industry observers have suggested that this might be too early in the season for the new service to take off again.
