New roadworks near Glasgow Airport
Motorists travelling to or from Glasgow Airport are being warned about new roadworks on the A8 starting tomorrow. The reconstruction of a section of the busy road between Woodhall and Newark Roundabout is scheduled to begin tomorrow night (Saturday) and last for a week.
Amey, who manage the A8 on behalf of Transport Scotland, carried out tests on the eastbound carriageway of this section of the A8 and discovered that the carriageway surface was beginning to crack. The road will now be dug out to a depth of 125mm and Amey will replace it layer by layer back up.
The eastbound carriageway will close from Saturday evening until Monday morning to allow for a traffic management system to be laid out. During this time traffic will be diverted via Glasgow Road. For the remainder of the week the A8 in this area will be reduced to one lane in either direction.
Bruce Donaldson, Amey's unit manager for south west Scotland said: 'We urge drivers to leave extra time for their journeys during this week, especially those travelling to Glasgow Airport or into Glasgow.'
Drivers should also note that this new set of roadworks coincides with work on the M8. Bridge works on the motorway at St James are currently underway, however two lanes will be maintained in either direction until half way through the project (November 11) where east-bound traffic will be reduced to one lane.
