Planning meeting for new aviation campaign group
26.05.08
A new umbrella aviation campaign group, Airportwatch Scotland, is due to meet for the first time this week to plan a campaign of action against airport expansion. The group is linked to Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, a coalition of more than 30 environment, development, faith and community groups, which has more than 1.5 million supporters.
South of the boarder, Airportwatch is a very active and effective campaign group and is backed by groups including Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, the Campaign to Protect Rural England, the Woodland Trust, the National Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Sophie Temple Preston, one of the organisers of the new Scottish group, said: ‘Airports must be stopped from blighting communities with noise, pollution and misery.’
