BA cut early morning Heathrow flight
25.06.08
British Airways is to cut its earliest morning flight from Glasgow Airport to Heathrow from October. The airline is to merge the first two flights of the day to Heathrow into one service, with the new flight leaving at 07:05 instead of 06:00. The second flight - the 07:30 service - will be cut under the revised timetable that begins on October 27, so that the new second flight of the day will only take off at 09:05.
The revised schedule will mean Scottish business and leisure travellers will only arrive at Heathrow until 08:30 - too late to get into the city centre for a 09:00 meeting. It will also hit business and leisure travellers wanting to connect to an early morning flight. However, BA say the changes are part of a general review of services and insist there will be minimal disruption for passengers.
The airline plans to operate a larger 188-seater Airbus A321 aircraft on the first flight to Heathrow to make up some of the lost capacity. In addition, it will continue 5 daily services to Gatwick and 4 to London City. The earliest Gatwick flight is 06:15 and to London City, 07:00, offering passengers the opportunity to still make a 09:00 meeting, but not an early morning connecting flight from Heathrow.
A spokesman for BA said: ‘Even with the change to the Glasgow - Heathrow schedule, we will continue to operate more services to Heathrow from Glasgow - and Scotland as a whole - than any other airline.‘
