BAA test sound effects on shopping spend
BAA have been carrying out tests at Glasgow Airport to see how the 'soundscape' - the background sounds in the terminal - can help improve passengers' experience, and make them spend more money in the shops, the Sctosman newspaper reports.
A mixture of computer generated ambient music and bird sounds has been subtly played in the airport's departure lounges. The trial at Glasgow Airport is believed to have increased sales in departure lounge shops by between 3 and 10 percent.
BAA now plan to carry out a similar experiment at another airports later in the year, the newspaper reports.
