116,000 head off from Glasgow airport this Christmas
Thousands of Scots travellers have embarked on a Christmas exodus today as a record number of families opted for a festive getaway. More than 116,000 people will have left Glasgow Airport by the end of the day.
Today is expected to be the busiest single day of the Christmas period, with 23,000 travellers due to check in. Many more will fly out before Hogmanay to destinations such as the Canaries, Florida and the Caribbean.
Glasgow Airport general manager Graham Latta said: 'We are gearing up to handle a record number of passengers this Christmas. It seems passengers have every corner of the globe covered this year and long-haul travel is especially strong.'
'Passengers are much more adventurous today than they were a few years ago. So while traditional sun spots such as Tenerife are as popular as ever, more and more people are travelling even further this Christmas.'
