Scottish minister backs rail link
24.10.09
Jim Murphy, the Secretary of State for Scotland, added his voice to the controversy over the future of the Glasgow Airport Rail Link yesterday, saying he backed the project axed by the Scottish Government, the Herald reports. He told an audience at Central College Glasgow: ‘I support the Glasgow Airport rail link. It should have gone ahead.’
Mr Murphy said that he had no problem with commenting on a devolved issue outside his jurisdiction, and quipped that by making the remarks on the airport rail link, he may have 'not so much stepped on the issue as trod over it'. Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, told the same event he also supported the line, saying it would help spur investment in the city.
