Pilot guilty of bomb hoax
A pilot has appeared in court after making a hoax '999' call to police claiming there was a bomb on a plane heading for Glasgow airport. John Joyce, 43, sparked a security alert when he said an explosive device was on board a passenger jet on its way to Glasgow.
In the call, made at 06:00 on 2nd May last year, Joyce claimed that an aircraft taking off from Birmingham would explode in mid-air. He said that he had found out about it after receiving a message on the internet.
Police raced to his home, and Joyce then confessed that he had made up the claim. Yesterday at Lanark Sheriff Court he was given 100 hours' community service after admitting the hoax.
