Airport warns taxi drivers over protest
22.07.08
The boss at Glasgow Airport has threatened to ban taxi drivers who continue to protest over rising costs, the Evening Times reports. Managing director Gordon Dewar said they would be forced off the airport if they took part in a second blockade.
The warning comes after dozens of drivers blocked airport access roads last week to protest changes introduced after last year's terror attack. The protest, during one of the airport's busiest times of the year, followed the introduction of a £60-a-week charge for new radios and tracking equipment.
Now officials at the airport have warned that they will employ ‘robust’ tactics to break any similar protest in the future. Mr Dewar told the newspaper: ‘We have robust contingency plans in place to ensure the free flow of traffic, should there be any further disruptive action. Additional taxis are on stand-by in the event of another walk out. We will take firm action against any driver who disrupts the operation of the airport.’
