£500,000 drugs find
22.04.10
An attempt to smuggle £500,000 of mephedrone into Scotland has been foiled. Mephedrone, known as M-CAT and Meow Meow, was formerly a ‘legal high’. However, it was recategorised an illegal Class B drug last week. Parcels containing 50 kg of the drug were intercepted at Glasgow Airport by UK Border Agency officials. A 21-year-old man has been charged with illegally importing the substance.
The parcels were destined for addresses in Ayrshire. Three properties were searched by officers from the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency. A 21-year old man later handed himself into the police. He has been charged under the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979.
