Air Scotland flights back on schedule

21.10.05

Air Scotland assured holidaymakers today that it was back to business as usual, as hundreds of passengers were due to fly to Spain. Exactly a week after passengers were left stranded when flights were delayed for more than 12 hours, the airline seemed to be on schedule. This morning a plane full of passengers due to set off from Glasgow Airport to Malaga at 07:00 today departed thirty minutes late.

Air Scotland's new owner said yesterday that it was shocked to discover the airline had debts of more than £2 million. Cupar Consultants, a Barcelona based company owns 100% of Greece Airways - Air Scotland has promised that the airline, which has a single plane, would continue to fly while clearing debts.

As accounts were being settled with various airline companies, the Air Scotland aircraft now being operated solely by Greece Airways is being allowed to fly to its European destinations. A spokesman for airline said, 'All flights are now running on time. Flights which took off last night ran schedule.'

Company representative, Rafael Barber-Llorente, spoke from a Glasgow airport hotel yesterday, saying the jobs of the Air Scotland staff were safe and that there were plans for long term expansion. He also apologised to travellers who had suffered hours of misery and said the company would fulfil legal obligations if compensation claims were made.

Cupar Consultants became full owners of the airline on Monday and have ordered a full audit. Problems began last Thursday when passengers faced delays of up to 16 hours over rows on unpaid fuel bills, which left the plane impounded at Glasgow Airport.

Until last Thursday, only had a 50% share in Air Scotland, but bought the remaining 50% from founder Dhia Al-Ani as he was selling his share in the business. Cupar Consultants is also considering legal action after being let down by a Polish airline. The company had hired a plane for £40,000 but the pilot refused to fly to Spain.
