New roadworks misery
21.09.08
Glasgow Airport passengers face four weeks of disruption whilst a £180,000 bridge barrier is replaced on the busy M8. The work, at Junction 26 Hillington, will affect east and westbound carriageways, and drivers are being advised to consider their travel plans during this month and October.
The bridge barrier safety project is expected to last 4 weeks and will be completed on October 17. The scheme will see more than 700ft of barrier being replaced along the edge of the bridge, which will help reduce the risk of vehicles blocking the railway line below if there is a crash on the motorway.
The roadworks are close to the Hillington Interchange, Braehead Shopping Centre, Braehead Arena, Xscape, Ikea and Glasgow Airport. 18,000 drivers who use the junction each day.
Throughout the project, hard shoulder and lane closures will be in place on both carriageways. Westbound off-slips and the eastbound on-ramp will also be closed to ensure the area is safe for site workers.
