New 'planeshop' retail offering announced
20.08.10
Glasgow Airport has announced a world first in shopping, the Evening Times reports. It is to be the launch pad for a new retail concept which, if successful, could be the start of a new global shopping chain. Planeshop is taking off in the airport’s former international departure lounge in the next few days and will initially employ 5 staff.
Planeshop is a new, permanent store which will showcase one brand, before replacing it with another a few weeks later. The shop will start by showcasing goods produced by Californian sports company K-Swiss, best known for its range of tennis, running and training shoes.
The company behind planeshop is Los Angeles-based Vacant, which introduced the world to ‘popup retailing’ – shops opening for a short time to feature a specific product or range before closing. A spokesman told the newspaper: ‘Our innovative retail concept will provide passengers with a new experience every time they visit planeshop.’
