Worst flight delays ever at Edinburgh and Glasgow this spring
Passengers suffered the worst spring delays at Scotland's two main airports since official records began more than a decade ago, the Scotsman newspaper reports. Passenger watchdogs said the delays were unacceptable and called for the publication of an official league table of airline performance.
Figures released this week by the Civil Aviation Authority show that 28% of scheduled flights at Edinburgh Airport between April and June were more than 15 minutes late. Things were only marginally better at Glasgow Airport, where 26% of scheduled flights arrived or left late. Passengers endured an average delay of 16 minutes at Edinburgh and 17 minutes at Glasgow.
Delays were even worse for passengers travelling on charter flights, although their punctuality has been worse over the last decade. The figures show that 42% were late at Edinburgh and 33% at Glasgow, with average delays of 27 and 23 minutes respectively.
BAA, which operates both airports, said the delays were caused by a range of factors, including weather, crew shortages and problems with aircraft.
