£300 fine over seat recline threats
20.01.09
A man was fined after trouble flared on an early-morning holiday flight to Glasgow Airport, the Evening Times reports. When an OAP passenger reclined his seat, the man sitting behind pushed the seat forward, and threatened him for ‘invading his space’.
Paisley Sheriff Court was told that trouble flared on July 5 last year as the Thomson holiday flight returned to Scotland from Bulgaria. Police at Glasgow Airport were put on standby after frightened pensioner John Templeton, 65, and family friend Eleanor Mellin complained about Robert Scott's conduct to cabin crew.
Mr Templeton tried to recline his seat to get some rest. But he had to call on the cabin crew after Mr Scott stood up, grabbed his arm rest, leaned into his face and told him: ‘I'm for you when we get off this plane in Glasgow.’
Mr Scott, 46, of Scalloway Road, Cambuslang, denied making threats, continually pushing against the seat, swearing and placing the passengers in a state of fear and alarm. He was found guilty of breach of peace and fined him £300.
