Roadworks near Glasgow Airport for the next two weekends
Passengers heading for Glasgow Airport over the next two weekends have been warned to expect delays on the M8. Resurfacing work is to be carried out on the motorway, with lanes blocked off and speed cut to 40 mph. The road is used by 42,000 drivers a day, and delays are likely during peak times
Amey say the work is necessary because parts of a motorway surface ‘dip’. Workmen will raise the affected sections to smooth out the bumps.
The upgrade is to be carried out over the next two weekends with work beginning late next Friday (July 25) on the westbound carriageway between Junction 25 at Cardonald and Junction 25a at Braehead. The work will switch to the opposite side of the motorway the following weekend when resurfacing will be carried out between Hillington roundabout and Junction 25 at Cardonald.
Two lanes in each direction will remain open and a contraflow system will operate during the work. However, during the first weekend the eastbound on-slip road at Junction 26 at Hillington will remain closed and during the second weekend he westbound on-slip road at Junction 25 will be closed.
Willie Watson of Amey said: ‘Given the close proximity of the work to Glasgow Airport we ask drivers to plan their journey in advance and leave extra time to reach the airport.’
