Minister to meet Scottish airport operators
19.01.11
Scotland's airport operators will attend a forum with Transport Minister Keith Brown to review winter weather resilience in a bid to ensure 'Scotland stays open for business during periods of extreme weather', the Evening Times reports. The operators of Prestwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports plus executives from Highlands & Islands Airports, have been invited together with staff from the Civil Aviation Authority, the aviation regulatory body.
The Minister met with Kevin Brown, managing director Edinburgh Airport, yesterday to discuss the winter response and develop an airports winter resilience programme. He said: ‘This meeting provided a useful insight into challenges faced by airports during severe weather and generated actions for us to pursue for continued improvements to our winter resilience.'
‘Staff throughout the country have worked extremely hard over recent months to keep our transport networks open and to keep Scotland moving. We must work together to continually improve our winter resilience response. A forum for airport operators from across Scotland will share knowledge and expertise and will help lay the foundations for future winter preparations.'
