CAA backs forced airport sale - but says it could be Glasgow

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has backed a preliminary decision by the UK competition watchdog to force BAA to sell one of its larger Scottish airports, but added that it not have a preference for which is sold.
Last month the Competition Commission recommended that BAA sell off Edinburgh Airport to open up the market for the benefit of passengers and airlines. But the CAA said that while it supported the commission's proposals, it did not believe there was a sufficient case to specify whether it should be forced to sell Edinburgh or Glasgow Airport.
Dr Harry Bush, director of the CAA's economic regulation unit, said: ‘The CAA strongly supports the Commission's structural reforms, involving the break-up of BAA to improve competition in the UK airport market. This break up must be linked with reform of regulation.’
