BA cancel 90% of Heathrow flights during strike
17.03.10
British Airways Scottish connections will see huge flight cuts this weekend during the threatened cabin crew strike, with 90% of its services axed. It is going to operate only 10 out of 108 flights between Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Heathrow due to the Unite strike over pay, job cuts and working conditions.
As the carrier stated that from Saturday through to next Monday the majority of its flights remained in its schedule, passengers on flights to and from Scotland are set to bear the brunt of the problems. BA confirmed it expected to fly 45,000 passengers a day on its UK services, representing about 60% of customers. However, 30,000 a day will be affected, with just one out of 36 flights between Glasgow and Heathrow operating this weekend, two out of 46 between Edinburgh and Heathrow and seven out of 26 between Aberdeen and Heathrow.
BA has said that passengers can change to its other flights free of charge and has put in place agreements with forty different airlines for passengers to switch to their flights too. It flights from Scotland to London City Airport are going to be unaffected and many flights to Gatwick will operate.
