Owner of Glasgow Airport Airlink Airport Parking plans move south
Scotland's 'airport parking king', John McGlynn, has announced he has built a warchest of more than £20m to look at opportunities in England. He is also in discussions about a future listing of his company on the AIM market.
McGlynn set up his first airport car park near Glasgow airport just over 10 years ago, in 1994. Since then he has built the Airlink Group, based in Paisley, into Scotland's largest independent long-stay airport car park group.
Airlink owns 5000 spaces in its airport car parks. During much of the year, Airlink's off airport parking is brimming with holidaymakers' cars, each paying from £25 a week per space.
McGlynn, who is chairman and owns the majority of the business, has reinvested most of the profits into buying land around Glasgow airport.
'I've now got my eyes set on moving into England. There are a lot of opportunities, including joint ventures, and we now have the firepower to make a significant move,' said McGlynn.
'I've built up assets of £20m over the past 10 years. I've an ambition to create a £100m company by the time I'm 40,' McGlynn said.
