Hot tar hits Glasgow Airport - Corfu flight
More than 2000 British travellers had their flights diverted or faced long delays yesterday after sticky tar on a Corfu airport runway forced a temporary shutdown. The airport was closed for five hours after 'freak' temperatures meant tar repairs the previous day had not dried.
George Zakos, the airport's general director, confirmed that ten flights - including one from Glasgow Airport - had to be diverted to other Greek airports or to Italy after landings 'became impossible.'
