15.12.07
The life of one of Britain's greatest architects is celebrated in an exhibition at Glasgow Airport. The touring display commemorates a centenary of the birth of Sir Basil Spence and opens at the airport today, running until January 5.
The exhibition celebrates Spence's design for Glasgow Airport, which was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on June 27, 1966. He also designed the replacement Coventry Cathedral.
Spence was born in India but was schooled and trained in Scotland. He said of Glasgow Airport: 'I wanted a design that helped the traveller to feel the adventure of flying.'
