Glasgow black cabs get airport pick-up rights
Glasgow's black taxis have won the right to drop off and pick up directly outside the Glasgow airport - after a U-turn by the airport. From today Glasgow black cabs can gain entry through the barrier and into the inner lane outside the terminal building.
The inner lane - for authorised vehicles only - was originally meant to be accessed by Glasgow Airport's own taxis for dropping off and picking up. But after a top-level talks with airport owners BAA, and the reported payment of a fee by Glasgow Taxis Limited, hundreds of black cabs have the same privileges as airport taxis. They will also be allowed to wait at the front of the terminal for prearranged pick-ups.
But private hires and all other non-authorised vehicles have not gained the same rights. They must still use the outer lane for dropping off and designated pick-up zones in airport car parks 1 and 3 for collecting hires.
