T2 to close next week

Glasgow Airport is to close its second terminal - known as T2 - next week in a bid to save hundreds of thousands of pounds. But officials have dismissed speculation that they plan to stop night time operations too, the Evening Times reports.
T2 is being mothballed from Tuesday and will remain closed until aviation's winter season ends on March 31. The shutdown is expected to save £300,000. However, the airport will continue to operate round the clock.
Customer service director Derek Provan told the newspaper: ‘The decision to close T2 is the right one for Glasgow Airport and its airlines. This is a matter of good housekeeping. T2 is little used during the winter months. It makes economic sense to close it to reduce costs.'
‘The airport is a commercial operation and, like any business, we need to keep a tight control over our costs so we can make best use of our resources, and invest for the future.’
But the Evening Times reports that the shutdown sparked a major bust-up behind the scenes. The row involved easyJet, which generates more income for Glasgow Airport than any other airline, and uses T2 for its check-in facilities.
easyJet was asked to switch passengers to the main terminal only to transfer check-in facilities back to T2 when it reopens in April, but the airline refused, demanding permanent check-in facilities in the main building. Initially airport boss Amanda McMillan rejected the request, but she is expected to allow easyJet to make a permanent switch.
