Jet2 to establish Glasgow Airport base
Budget airline Jet2 has is to establish a base at Glasgow Airport next spring, and will launch flights to nine destinations. It will base a Boeing 757 and a 737 at the airport from March 2011 in a move that will create 150 jobs.
Glasgow will be Jet2's eighth base, with the launch giving Scotland its only direct route to Nice in the South of France. The other routes to be launched next year are Alicante, Dalaman, Faro, Tunisia, Majorca, Paphos, Sharm el Sheikh and Tenerife.
Jet2 Managing director Ian Doubtfire said there was a ‘considerable gap’ in the market at Glasgow Airport, which his airline intends to fill. The budget airline is believed to have won Scottish Government funding to launch the base for its cabin crew and other staff, the Scotsman reports.
