Airport taxis to take foreign cash
14.03.08
Passengers taking a taxi from Glasgow Airport will soon be able to pay their fare with left-over foreign currency or a credit card. This is one of a number of initiatives being introduced by Greenock-based Inverclyde Taxis, the company awarded the contract to manage the 155 airport taxis from March 31.
The firm will spend £500,000 on new technology, such as radios and GPS tracking (which will then be rented by the drivers for £60 a week). In addition to technology to allow passengers to pay with credit cards or foreign currency, it has also promised to improve efficiency at peak time and to to encourage taxi sharing, in a bid to reduce waiting.
It will offer fixed return rates and will seek to expand the number of taxis operating from the airport.
