Snow causes worst passenger figures for 5 years
13.01.11
Glasgow Airport has suffered its worst passenger figures in 5 years, the Evening Times reports. Heavy snow and treacherous ice caused flights chaos across the UK in the coldest December in decades, and although Glasgow’s runway was only shut for only a few hours, the freezing conditions and closures at other airports in the UK and across Europe meant it lost more than 76,000 passengers.
Passengers on domestic flights dropped by 22.2%, while passengers taking international flights in and out of Glasgow were down by just 2.6%. The airport handled 359,996 passengers when it had hoped more than 436,000 would have passed through the terminal.
