Record weekend expected
A record number of holidaymakers will fly out of Glasgow Airport this weekend, as the schools take their October break. More than 66,000 people will fly out of the airport, the highest ever figure for the period.
The top choice destination is Majorca, closely followed by Tenerife and Spain's Costa Blanca. Other popular destinations include Amsterdam, Malaga on the Costa del Sol, the Algarve in Portugal and Orlando, Florida.
A BAA spokesman at Glasgow Airport said that between today and Monday, around 200 flights will carry passengers to the sun. Charter firm Thomas Cook is laying on 12 extra planes - 14 instead of the usual 2 - to Tenerife on today alone to cope with the exodus.
