Scotland's airports gear up for busy weekend
Scotland's two biggest airports are set for one of their busiest weekends of the year, as they deal with tens of thousands of half-term holidaymakers. The two airports will see a combined 230,000 people will fly out, as the school break begins.
More than 17,000 holidaymakers will fly out of Glasgow Airport with Thomas Cook. Ian Smith, the travel company's director of operations, said: 'This October is set to be our busiest ever. Glasgow is one of our most important and busiest bases year round, but the half-term getaway is something else.' The company, who normally lay on 22 flights a week from Glasgow, are putting on 74 between tomorrow and Monday.
Other firms who fly from Glasgow and Edinburgh, including Thomsonfly, First Choice and My Travel, all expect one of their busiest weekends of the year. They are laying on extra flights to cope with demand and pilots and aircrews have been drafted in from across the country.
