Record September for Glasgow airport
Glasgow airport retained its position as Scotland's busiest airport in september, after another record-breaking month. More than 900,000 passengers flew in to and out of the airport, making it the busiest September ever for the airport.
Figures released by BAA yesterday revealled that the airport attracted 901,177 travellers last month, making September the second busiest month of the year so far. Only the peak holiday month of July saw more passengers. Glasgow Airport has now handled almost 8.8 million passengers so far this year - around 400,000 more than Edinburgh.
International passengers rose by 5.3% in September, compared to a year earlier, while total passenger traffic jumped by 2.1%. Long haul services from Glasgow performed particularly well with flights to Orlando, New York and Dubai amongst the most popular routes. Prague was the fastest growing European destination, followed closely by Barcelona, Las Palmas and Faro.
Stephen Baxter, Glasgow Airport Managing Director, said: 'We have now grown every month for the past 19 months, with international traffic, in particular, enjoying steady and sustained growth. Our master plan forecasts that this trend will continue in the months and years to come, as Glasgow positions itself to become a major player in a fast-changing global market.'
