12.06.09
Tender documents will be issued by the end of June by Transport Scotland to the four teams bidding for a £130 million contract for the next phase of the Glasgow Airport Rail Link. The phase includes the construction of a 2km-long track section, the St James Spur, which features a single span bridge over the M8 motorway to the new airport station.
Carillion, Morrison, a joint venture between Irish firm Roadbridge and Sisk and a joint venture between Balfour Beatty, Morgan Est and Vinci Construction are all in the running. A Transport Scotland spokesman said: ‘We are undertaking final preparations to the tender documentation for the Branch Line Phase 1. We anticipate the launch of this tender to be in June.’
The rail link is set to be operational in early 2013, in time for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
