Glasgow Airport has record 8.8m passengers
Glasgow Airport attracted a record 8.8 million passengers over the past 12 months, it was revealed yesterday. This meant that Glasgow kept its nose ahead of Edinburgh, which had 8.5 million pasengers but grew at a slightly faster rate.
Glasgow Airport saw passenger numbers rise 2.4 percent during the 2005-2006 financial year. The busiest international destination from Glasgow during the 12 months was Palma, then Tenerife and Amsterdam. Dubai was the most popular long-haul route.
New flights to Pakistan, Switzerland, Portugal and Egypt, which were among 13 new flights launched from Glasgow Airport, also proved successful.
Figures for the month of March show Glasgow's passenger numbers were up 1.2 percent to 610,723 passengers, while Edinburgh had a rise of 0.8 percent to 676,055.
