Plane quarantined after 27 passengers sick
A flight from the Dominican Republic quarantined for 90 minutes at Glasgow Airport yesterday, after 27 passengers fell sick with a stomach bug, a spokesman said. The passengers on the MyTravel flight, which landed yesterday morning, fell ill with sickness and diarrhoea - which must have been difficult on a plane with just six toilets.
Airport operator BAA said the quarantine was standard procedure. A spokesman added that a team of four doctors was organised to check the passengers over. He added: 'They were diagnosed with the novovirus, more commonly known as winter vomiting bug.'
A MyTravel spokeswoman confirmed all of the affected passengers had been staying at the illness-hit Bahia Principe San Juan hotel in Punta Cana. She said: 'The bug outbreak, which lasts between 12 and 48 hours, is confined to the one hotel.'
All of the passengers received treatment and none required hospital attention before being allowed home. The aircraft was allowed to leave the airport after the 90 minute delay.
