Glasgow Airport in Edinburgh's sights
Passenger numbers released by BAA this week showed that Edinburgh Airport is closing in on Glasgow as Scotland's biggest hub. Year-on-year figures showed that Edinburgh airport carried almost 8.47 million passengers over the past 12 months - a rise of 5.5% on the previous year. Glasgow, meanwhile, carried just under 8.8 million passengers over the past year, up only 2.4%.
During January, Edinburgh saw the number of passengers travelling through it rise by 3.6% to 552,700 while Glasgow recorded a slightly higher monthly gain of 4.3% to 525,700. Aberdeen was the UK's fastest growing airport among BAA's portfolio in January, with a total of 216,000 people - a jump of almost 16%.
