Asylum seeker jailed for false passport
An asylum seeker who tried to leave Edinburgh with a fake passport has been jailed for 2 months. Robert Kajuga, 27, from the African state of Burundi, decided to try to start a new life in Canada after his request for political asylum in the UK was rejected.
Armed with a Canadian passport, which had been provided by 'a friend', Kajuga tried to leave the country on a flight from Edinburgh Airport on July 21 but officials became suspicious because the photograph on the passport did not look like him. At Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, Kajuga was jailed for two months and the Sheriff recommended that he be deported.
