New pick up scheme introduced
Air passengers are now banned from being dropped off directly outside Glasgow airport, after a new barrier system came into force this week. With the inside lane of the road past the terminal reserved for buses and officially-accredited airport taxis, passengers face a longer walk to one or other of the peripheral car parks to meet friends or relatives.
New rules on passenger drop-off and pick-up at the airport mean that hundreds of passengers each day are diverted away from the terminal entrance and to short term airport parking, where they face a fee of £1 for a 10 minute stay.
The rules have also upset taxi drivers. As only two taxis at a time are allowed to wait at the terminal for their fares, the rest have to drive round in circles, burning diesel. So much for this being an environmentally friendly change.
