Fair trade push at Glasgow Airport
08.03.08
Fairtrade supporters targeted holidaymakers, tourists and business passengers yesterday in their campaign to make win the prestigious status for Renfrewshire. The Fairtrade Roadshow, which has been visiting various places as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, was at Glasgow Airport.
The stall was manned by volunteers from Renfrewshire Fairtrade Steering Group offered leaflets, sample tasters and information on why Fairtrade products are important. The aim of the event is to follow on from the success of Paisley and Bishopton in achieving Fairtrade status for the whole of Renfrewshire.
Council leader Derek Mackay, chair of the group, said: ‘We are committed to making Renfrewshire a Fairtrade zone and want to spread that message as far as possible. The roadshow is a way of encouraging people to try some of these products and showing them how they could change someone else’s life by choosing to buy these items.’
