£2000 fine for violent air rage drunk
06.10.10
A violent drunk who punched a passenger on a jet to Spain and kicked a flight attendant was fined £2000 yesterday. Colin Coats, 40, threatened to burn other easyJet passengers on the flight from Glasgow Airport to Alicante.
Coats, from Glasgow, told steward George Barron he would kill him if police boarded the plane in September last year when it landed in Spain. He shouted: ‘I'm Colin Coats. I'm a gangster, do you know who I am?’
Spanish police had to pin him horizontally at the back of the cabin to try to calm him down. He then turned his attention to a female passenger seated nearby. He swore at her and said he would burn her house down. He asked if she had children then said he would burn them too.
He admitted assaulting a cabin crew member and threatening passengers on the plane at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday, but claimed his drink had been spiked and he could not remember the incident. Sheriff Neil Douglas rejected his claims and imposed fines totalling £2,000. He said Coats would have been jailed if the incident had happened while the plane was in the air.
