Rail link plans dead after SNP budget passed
05.02.10
Any hope that the Glasgow Airport Rail Link might be revived was dashed on Wednesday when MSPs passed the Scottish Government's budget for the forthcoming year, despite a last minute plea by the airport's boss.
Glasgow Airport MD Amanda McMillan said earlier this week that cancelling plans for the rail link left a ‘gaping hole’ in passengers access plans. She urged MSPs to re-consider the decision because it has negative effects on the city's reputation, tourism and businesses. But the minority SNP Government squeezed through the budget with the support from the Conservatives, Green Party and Independent MSP Margo Macdonald, in the face of opposition from the Labour party.
