Suspicious package closes terminal
04.11.10
Glasgow Airport was evacuated last night after a suspect package was found in the search area. A security officer spotted a suspicious bag and police were called in at 20:00. The bag and its contents were deemed to be safe about 4 hours later.
Passengers and staff were evacuated while the bag was screened. The spokesman for the airport apologised for the inconvenience but said safety was a priority. As well as the search area, the adjacent road at the front of the terminal was also closed during the scare. The bag was reunited with its owner after it had been examined.
The last two flights due to leave - easyJet's 20:55 service to Gatwick and BMI's 21:25 service to Heathrow - were both delayed. There were also delays in getting passengers off aircraft that had landed at the airport.
