Airport boss raises rail link concerns
02.02.10
Scrapping the Glasgow Airport Rail Link has left a ‘gaping hole’ in plans to improve passenger access to the airport, its managing director, Amanda McMillan, told MSPs. She wrote to all 129 MSPs outlining her concerns for boosting business since the link was axed from the SNP's plans last September.
Ms McMillan said she was worried that dropping the rail project would leave ‘a gaping hole’ in road and rail access to a hub of ‘national importance’, and said that taking no other action was not an option. She asked the politicians to put pressure on ministers to find ‘alternatives’ and safeguard financial resources, and said the rail link remained the airport operator's favoured option.
She added that ground links to the airport were ‘frustrating’ for its passengers, particularly the M8. A Scottish Government spokesman said through Transport Scotland it was working closely with airport operator BAA to ‘identify further enhancements to Glasgow's transport infrastructure to improve connections across the city’.
