Airport managers to meet ethnic group leaders over security concerns
01.06.11
Ethnic minority leaders have been invited to a security open day at Glasgow Airport to try to allay fears that they are being singled out for questioning by its security staff. Glasgow MSP Humza Yousaf has organised the event with the airport following claims that some ethnic minorities would rather travel to Manchester or London to take a flight than face ‘awkward questions’ at Glasgow.
Mr Yousaf told a local newspaper: ‘During my election campaign, a number of people raised issues about security at Glasgow Airport with me. Some have been stopped 4 or 5 times and asked really awkward questions such as: How many times a day do you pray?; What mosque do you go to?; or Does your wife wear a head scarf?’
