Rail link goes live - as computer game !

The Glasgow Airport Rail Link is back on track – thanks to a computer game, the Paisley Express reports. The £210m project to link Paisley with the airport and Glasgow city centre was axed by the Scottish Government last year. But train buffs can now ‘travel’ along the high-speed line after bosses at Steam – an online gaming website – released a Glasgow Airport Rail Link add-on for its RailWorks train driver simulation game, the newspaper reports.
Designed by experts from Totalize Media to help real life drivers practice the route before it was axed, the technology was converted into a simulation game after the plug was pulled on the link. Described as Steam’s most ambitious project to date, the game features the 9km of existing track from Glasgow Central to Paisley St James and an additional 1.9km of new track to the airport.
Gamers can hurtle past life-like houses in the Greenlaw area of Paisley, stop off at Gilmour Street station to pick up passengers and even zoom over traffic on the M8 motorway as they travel to the airport station. A spokesman for Steam said: ‘Glasgow Airport Rail Link for RailWorks raises the bar for driving experiences. You’ll be tested and rostered just like the real thing.’
