Flyglobespan plane diverted after problems in Edinburgh

A Flyglobespan flight from Lanzarote had to be diverted to Glasgow Airport earlier this week, after two aborted landings. The flight had been delayed half an hour before take off and the Boeing 737-700, with over one hundred passengers on board, came in to land at Edinburgh Airport at 02:35 on Monday.
The plane was due to land on a temporary runway, as the main one is closed at night until November for major resurfacing works. However, the temporary runway does not have an instrument landing system which gives precision radio and lighting guidance to approaching aircraft and, after two failed attempts to land, the pilot diverted to Glasgow. Buses were laid on to take the passengers back to Edinburgh.
A Flyglobespan spokeswoman said: ‘We apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience. Poor visibility and lack of a landing guidance system on the secondary runway at Edinburgh Airport prompted the pilot's actions. Safety is always our primary concern.’
